Items in a list

Asked By: Imran    Date: Mar 22    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 643

How do you open an item in a list, i.e. a document in a new window.
Currently if you open the document it will open in the same window as
your sharepoint site. If you then close the document window it closes
the site down.

I saw that I could right click and choose open  in a new window, but
there as to be a way to set the target to blank.

Not via SharePoint (at least I am not aware of a way). Just like in
ASP.Net, you would have to write java script to do this.

Technically you wouldn't need Javascript, since as the OP mentioned, there
is an HTML attribute for this. There isn't a built-in way AFAIK, but with
SharePoint Designer it's fairly easy to create a custom view page. The
following link should provide some help:

msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc300163.aspx
