Issue capturing task ID in workflow

Date: Oct 13    Category: MOSS    Views: 1441

I've got a SPD workflow where I have a 'Collect Data from User' task. I then
have an email going out to the approver with supporting information. The
problem I'm having, though, is I can't seem to capture the ID of the task as a
workflow variable successfully.

If I try to send the e-mail first, it fails because the task hasn't been created
yet. If I send the e-mail after the task has been created, it seems like the
e-mail stalls until the task has been completed. Is there a way I can capture
the ID of the newly created task? The reason I'm trying to do this is I have a
customized form as part of the workflow but I can't seem to insert the ID to
make the URL function properly.

The WF will always pause while waiting for the response from the user on the
task. The way around this is to attach an emailing WF on the task list that
sends the person to the item that created the task from the original list. There
is also a setting on the task list that automatically sends an email to the
person who was assigned the task. Check that out first.

Yeah, I looked at that already. I went ahead and turned off the OOB
notification and attached a workflow on the tasks list. I was then able
to grab information from the original list using the Workflow List ID
column. This was a lifesaver!
