Intranet and Extranet Deployment

Asked By: Wayne    Date: Aug 06    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1553

The WSS Administrator's Guide has a section called Intranet and Extranet
Deployment. It suggestes this setup so that internal users can use
Windows Integrated Authentication and external users can use Basic
authentication. This would be perfect for our needs. However, I'm
confused by a few things.

First, I find no mention of this in the SPS Administrator's guide. Is
this only possible in a WSS only installation?

Secondly, the Guide states that "you use two virtual servers, on
separate server computers, configured differently." Then, a few
paragraphs later, it states that "you can use the same Web front-end
server to host both your intranet and extranet virtual servers."

Which is it? I've only got two servers, one running SQL (this is also
the domain controller) and one running SPS/WSS. Can I do this?
