Integration With SQLServer

Asked By: Sonny    Date: Jan 21    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 934

So I've got the DataView Web Part and it will reach into SQLServer
and hits a stored procedure, gets the output and grids it on
screen. And that's cool.

But, when it gets on screen, I'd like to be able to click on one of
the values in one of the columns and get something like a list item
to open up where I click on "Edit Item" and it drops into edit mode
and I can click on "Save and Close" and actually get the data to go
back to the SQLServer.

Does it work like this:

In the dataview, instead of just poking the column value into the
DVWP, use some transformation utility to add sufficient text to
render the column value as a hyperlink that will not only open a
viewitem.aspx page but also trigger some stored procedure to
populate the values on the viewitem.aspx.

And then, there will have to be something to support the edit and
something else to support the update.

Am I going in the right direction?
