Yes, make use as many performance features as possible. Though, it's direct usefulness to outside developers is questionable. Primarily because resorting to direct DB access is an indication that the object model and system design is deficient. It would be nice to add some relational constraints between links and their destination web pages to prevent dead links. (Now that is a real stretch goal. A bit impractical to implement, however.)
