Instant Messenger in a Digital dashboard

Can anyone tell me if its possible to add instant messenger to a digital dashboard. Any web parts that people can recommend or what would be involved in creating my own IM web part www.microsoft.com/.../tools asp has an IM WebPart and the WebPart SDK www.microsoft.com/Sharepoint/downloads/WPDK.asp has a document called "BuildingIMEnabledWebPartswiththeIMSC.doc"
