Installing SharePoint 2010 as Production in NON-DOMAIN.

Date: Feb 26    Category: Sharepoint 2010    Views: 847

I have a serious question here and a situation which i really never face
before :)
I just want to know If there is possibility to perform the installation of
SharePoint 2010 as a Production Server in Non-Domain Environment?. Even
with limited functionality, I would like to know those things which won't be
available or any risks which might be there?.

I understand, this is not an optimal or a
Microsoft recommended scenario. But, as i said I'm Facing this scenario now
with one of the Customer. BTW, the Client is not planing at the main time to
have own AD, but saying maybe after one year.

I appreciate all the answers and reply.

I use a sharepoint 2010 server in production, with local user accounts and
SQL Server on the same server.
I do not have problem with that.

Yes, you can install SharePoint 2010 in a non-domain environment. The
limitation is that you can only have a single SharePoint server, since you will
be using the local accounts as service accounts. Also, if you want to use a
separate SQL server you will need to use SQL (mixed mode) authentication since
you won't have a windows account that will be recognized on both the
SharePoint and SQL servers.

But, what about the functionality, is there any limitation if I want to use SP
Server 2010 Enterprise license?.

No real limitation on functionality other than only being able to implement one
server. When you only have one server you may be somewhat limited on the
service apps you can deploy without affecting performance.

So, i think i can start now to
build one VM Image for such a scenario, also i think i can start the discussion
with the client
