Installation and Configuration Error

Asked By: Ashu    Date: Aug 29    Category: MOSS    Views: 829

My first problem has arisen during installation. I am pretty new to
Windows Server and Sharepoint but my boss has been using them for
several years. When I try and install MOSS it gets through the whole
thing and then at the end when it is applying updates before
finalizing the installation it gives an error message saying that the
installation did not complete correctly and then a Send/Don't send
error message box pops up. I have clicked send and don't send. I
originally thought that because it was during the updates section that
it just had some problem applying an update and would still work. When
I click to begin configuration it starts and then I get the message
"Failed to Start the database service MSSQL$OfficeServers. Repair this
product by selecting it from the Add/Remove Programs menu"

When I go to add/remove programs there is no instance of anything like
MSSQL Office Servers. I have gone through and uninstalled all SQL
services, .Net, and MOSS several times and tried to start clean but
every time I get back to this point same error.

I have a log file that it creates if you would like me to post that as
well. Any help is greatly appreciated. I also looked around on the
internet to see if I could find a total removal program for MOSS but I
couldn't find one. I think that something like this would help but if
anyone has any suggestions I am open to try anything. Thanks in advance.

I feel your pain.

Just a shot in the dark, but it sounds like it could be a permissions
issue. Are you installing the product as stand-alone or are you building
out a farm? Are you using SQL Express or SQL Server? Are you logged in
as a local user on the machine, or as a domain user? Does the user
belong to the local admin group on the machine?
