Inheriting Content types

Asked By: Keaton    Date: May 28    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 801

I have a contact list that has about 8 different content types all for
different kinds of contacts that require different fields. I've watched
a video (
fb7a6a466/ContentTypes.wmv) on content types and how if you inherit from
a base content type and then add the custom fields then when you are on
the create a new contact screen you should see a drop down for the
different content types. The user can then select the type of contact
they are creating and depending on what content type they select they
should see different fields appear.

Well in short all of my 8 content types are all inheriting from the same
base content type. After you click on new contact and it takes you to
the create contact screen, the first field that should appear is the
content type to allow the users to change the type of contact that they
are creating, but it does not. Is this not possible to do this in a
contact library?

You should be able to do what you are trying to do. I suspect that there
must be something wrong with the XML. How did you generate the Content
Type IDs?
