Information Rights Management

Date: May 29    Category: MOSS    Views: 916

I was curious if anyone out there has encountered the need to
implement IRM on a Sharepoint site using any version but specific to Sharepoint
Foundation. The client is attempting to lock down documents stored in their
Sharepoint site from being saved to the end user's desktop or laptop. They
want to prohibit documents from being taken offsite.

Any thoughts? I was sure Information Rights Management would work but not sure
the client wants to purchase the $4,000.00 price tag to implement IRM.

Windows 2008 R2 includes IRM, no additional licensing cost.
However you should have 2 servers running IRM, in case of failure.

Windows Server 2008 r2 includes IRM for the server. I believe you still
need to buy IRM CALs for the client install that is needed on each

IRM the service has no licensing cost. Connecting clients to it and using it

Another possible option to consider might be (if they are running 2010)
a combination of View Only permissions and the Office Web Applications.
