INcoming Email Enabled - Need more clarity

Asked By: Anderson Potts         Date: Feb 17, 2010      Category: MOSS      Views: 317

I reviewed the below mentioned article. We are using Exchange Server
2007, do we still need to install SMTP services on MOSS Server? we
are having 2 front end servers.

http://www.combined-knowledge.com/Downloads/How%20to%20configure%
20Email%20Enabled%20Lists%20in%20Moss2007%20RTM%20using%20Exchange%
202007.pdf

I configured my CA-Incoming Mail properties as well as front site my
document library as per the article properly. I am able to send mail
but mail is not adding in my document library, is this becuase I am
not using/installed SMTP services on MOSS servers?

As per our internal security policy we can not use SMTP services, sd
we are having Excchange Server 2007, what is the alternate for this.

You definately need to have smtp  installed on the sharepoint server
to enable the list or library  to receive mail...

Is the SharePoint server  also the Exchange server?
Exchange SMTP and IIS SMTP cannot coexist on the same server. I believe
that is what you were hinting at but wanted to clarify. If the
SharePoint server is the Exchange server, I have a workaround to
implement that kind of design.
