Importing IE favorites into My Links Summary

Asked By: Helen    Date: Jan 05    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 47452

I have looked all over for an answer to this and I suspect the simple
one is 'no' but...

Is there a way of mass importing favorites from Internet Explorer (or
any browser for that matter) directly into the My Links section on the
users My Site. The only way provided through a browser is one at a
time but obviously for users with lots and lots of favorites they are
unlikely to do that. Which is a shame as importing the favorites would
be a great incentive for getting people to use My Site and SharePoint

Here's hoping...

You can export your Favorites to an HTML file, which could then be copied to
a Content Editor Web Part. Alternately, with a little cleanup, you could
bring the file into Excel and save it as a spreadsheet, and then create a
list from that.

I had used the HTML and CWEP
suggestion before and it is ok but the list idea is a new one and has
the benefit of it being far easier for end-users to add new URLs to.
So thanks for that. Neither of these would tie the 'old' favorites to
the Links web part (which ties in with the rest of the WSS sites and
the 'Manage Links' functionality) but it looks like I will just have
to live with that.
