Importing Exporting Lists to Excel

I am very new to SP and this group as well. I have a new assignment about
copying a list to other sharepoint server. I am told that it requires to be
exported, first to excel and then to the server.
Can any one help me how. Should i write some API code to do this or MOSS 2007
has some built in functionality for deploying a a list from one server to
other.(I know about the MOSS out-of-the-Box functionality to export a list to
Excel but to other server dont know)

You have some other ways as well.

1. Save the list  as a template from the first server  and create a list on
the new server based on this template.

2. Export this list as a package (.fwp) using Sharepoint Designer from the
first server and import this package into the other server.
