Import a SharePoint 2003 list template to MOSS 2007

How to import a SharePoint 2003 list template to MOSS 2007?

I can easily save a MOSS2007 list as a template and re-use the template. I can
do the similar thing in SharePoint 2003 as well.But after Iuploaded a SharePoint
2003 template to“List Template Gallery”in MOSS 2007, I do not see the template
under Create -> Tracking.

The alternative, which I try to avoid, will be writing custom code toget the
detailed data from old list and insert the data into new list.

Could anyone who had experience dealtwith this help me?

I don't believe there's a way to do this out of the box. If I were faced
with this situation I would try two things, probably in this order:

1) Set up a SharePoint 2003 environment in a virtual machine. Create a
list with my custom template. Upgrade that environment to SharePoint
2007. Save the upgraded list  out as a template. Copy to my production
SharePoint 2007 farm.
2) Look at third party solutions like Metalogix or maybe Avepoint.
