Import Contact List in Portal Server

I have created a list in Share Point Portal Server 2003 for my contacts (first name, last, number etc.). My current options to import data is via Outlook. Unfortunately, all of the my customer data is in an EXCEL spreadsheet. Cut and Paste does not work. Any suggestions?

You should be able to import  the excel spreadsheet which will in turn create a custom list

As I click "Import Contacts" the only option I get to import  data is from Outlook. Is there a setting that I need to change to allow Excel import?
