Implement Security on SPPS 2003

  Asked By: Russell Fisher         Date: Sep 06, 2004      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 299

How do I enforce security on my SPPS 2003 site. I need a group of users to
access one sub area under an area while others another sub area / doc
library

e.g. I have Home, News, SubArea 1, Sub Area 2

SubArea 1 contains Doc Lib1 & Doc Lib2

SubArea 2 contains Dob Lib 21 & Doc Lib 22

Users belonging to Grp1 will have access to SubArea 1, Doc Lib 1

Users belonging to Grp2 will have access to SubArea 2, Doc Lib 21

Users belonging to Grp3 will have access to SubArea 1 -> Doc Lib 21 &
SubArea 2 -> Doc Lib 22

The information should not be shared in any way amongst the groups i.e. the
Search too should not return documents to which a particular Grp is not
expected to see.

If you go to Manage Security for an individual area, you can manage which users have the ability to see the area, and whether they can edit listings. These permissions also apply to Document Libraries in those areas; unfortunately, you cannot specify unique permissions in these libraries. Only libraries in WSS Sites have this feature. Also, if users don't have permissions to view an item, it will not appear in their search results.
