Images disappearing from site after content db upgrade

Asked By: Ruchir    Date: Aug 09    Category: MOSS    Views: 2063

While inspecting our site after a content db upgrade from SPS03 to
MOSS, we noticed a couple of images missing..
The first one was the attach.gif (small paper clip that appears when a
list item contains an attachment) and the second set of images are the
ones that should appear in the navigation settings page at the bottom.
A small folder for heading, the link icon for creating a link..and so
on.
I checked the 12\TEMPLATE\IMAGES folder and the gifs that are supposed
to be there are.
I also checked the permissions on the folders and all the required
users/groups have the proper permissions..
Keeping in mind that there is no loss of functionality here, just
horrible looking pages with red x's everywhere.

Has anyone seen this before?

There were roughly a dozen images  that Microsoft did not bring from v2
to v3. I bugged about it and then begged them to put them back but they
would have had to go thru an additional regression test so they refused.
They said it would be easy enough for me to add them back in myself. I
explained that they would be forcing thousands of people to potentially
copy the "deprecated" missing  images. Microsoft closed the bug.

Here is my list of deprecated images:
ACTIVE.GIF
AUTDEACT.GIF
DEACTIVE.GIF
HOMEPAGEold.GIF
IMNAWAY.GIF
IMNBUSY.GIF
IMNOFF.GIF
IMNON.GIF
IMNUNK.GIF
IMNVISIT.GIF
ssopage.ico
unknown16.gif
unknown32.gif
USM.GIF
XLSHTML16.gif

I don't see attach.gif on my list so maybe you have some other problem.

this is great information, as always. I didn't realize they had
deprecated so many of the "normal" items.

Once the cache on the server was flushed out, the images  came back.
It had me scratching my head though for sure.
