IIS Lockdown issues ?

Asked By: Jena    Date: Dec 22    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1096

Does anyone run IIS Lockdown for SharePoint Portal Server 2001 with SP2.

Any known issues (backup/restore, webparts, customization,etc) ?

It is my understanding that it is not recommended to use IIS
lockdown on a box already in production. If you want to use it, rebuild a
box from scratch starting with IIS lockdown  and then adding SPS.

I would agree with John about not running the IISlockdown tool on a
production machine, mainly from personal experience. That said the newest
version of the IISlockdown tool 2.1 is driven by templates and it has a
SharePoint template for SharePoint servers.

If I was in your position and you needed to run  it against a production
server would be to first test the IISLockdown tool an a development box and
see if it gives you any problems if not then run it on the production. Just
make sure you have a full backup. Also the IISLockdown does let you go back
to the original configuration but better safe then sorry.

I received that information from the SPS summit. However, it makes complete sense to me. Early
on, we changed permission on a SPS development box and it was complete

Currently we are in the process of build a clean server  for Production.
Would like to run  IIS Lockdown.

One thing I noticed is, once we run lockdown, rollback is not working.
Is there any other issues, any experiences ?

Since it is a clean install I wouldn't think you are going to have any
problems. I would set up the server run  the microsoft tools hfnetchk and
iislockdown and then install SharePoint. After the install I would just test
the server  to make sure it is acting correctly. I haven't had any problems
with SharePoint and IISlockdown if it was run before loading SharePoint, but
as I am sure you know SHarePoint v1 is not the most stable so I would
definitely keep an eye on it.
