iFilter PDF's

Asked By: Carter    Date: Sep 06    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1236

I am pretty sure I am correct but will someone confirm this for me.

Using STS you are able to upload pdf's and have the icon show up by
editing the Docicon.xml and adding the .gif to the Web Server
Extensions\60\Template\Images dir.

Now would Portal allow you to search the context of the PDF's or will
it only show serach results based off file name and title?

The PDF IFilter allows for text inside PDF files to be indexed and
searched; therefore whenever you do a search  for text within a PDF,
the document will show  up in search results.

Are you having trouble getting it to work?

I installed the iFilter and got all the way to step 7 on the guide
below but step 8 and 9 refer to Portal Server and we are just using
Team Services at the moment. The search  doesn't seem to find
information that is withing the pdf document, just the title  and filename.
