HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed

Asked By: Nakul    Date: Apr 02    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 17682

I've been working with SharePoint for a long time, but I'm brand new to
the publishing sites template, and I'm having a bit of a rough time. I
designed a custom master page and a home page that pulls from it, using
Heather Solomon's base master page file (thanks, Heather!). All is well
when viewing the page when logged in as the site admin (which is the
account that I did all the work under in SharePoint Designer), but when
I log in as any other user I get the following (even with friendly
errors turned off):

Server Error in '/' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------

The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its
dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is
temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure
that it is spelled correctly.

Any ideas why it would work for one account and not the others?

Make sure You've published your master pages and page layouts so they
are accessible to all.

And make sure that they are approved after publishing them.

I just figured it out! I didn't realize the custom
master page I had created had to be checked in and approved as well.
Duh! Everything's working nicely now. Thanks again for the help - and
for the name compliment!
