To Host or Not to Host....

Asked By: Bobbi Allison         Date: Feb 05, 2009      Category: MOSS      Views: 179

We have an internal implementation of Moss 2007 and are currently
using it for our Intranet. We'd like to rebuild our Public Internet
site and take advantage of the Content Deployment feature, but we're
trying to decide whether we should host the internet site ourselves
or outsource the hosting.

It seems like an obvious choice to host our own internet site, since
we already have a Moss environment set up, but it's the issue of
bandwidth, 100% uptime and 24x7 support that gives us pause.

I'm trying to weigh requirements of the environment with the cost to
support it and I'm looking for some advice.

It looks like hosting it externally would be a less expensive option.
Can anyone tell me if there's something I'm missing? Are there any
pitfalls I should be aware of trying to deploy content from our
internal set-up to an external host? Am I to quickly disregarding in-
house hosting?
