Historical Usage Analysis - MOSS 2007

Asked By: Tarang    Date: Sep 01    Category: MOSS    Views: 2099

I have usage analysis turned on for my MOSS 2007. The environment has
been up and running for about 5 months. I am now working with our
Internal Communications department to track usage of the site. What I
am seeing out of the box is all for the last 30 days. I need to see
specific usage for the last few months. Can someone point me in the
direction for how to get historical data? I need to track specific
documents, users, etc...things like that.

Via the user interface of the website you can't view more than the last
30 days. You can get more than that if you view reports in SharePoint
Designer.

When I look at "Monthly Page Hits" in Sharepoint Designer I get "There is no
usage info available because no data is being collected for this Web Site. To
collect usage  data, contact the server administrator." I have the site setup to
track usage? Is there another setting that needs to be checked to get that to
work?

No, that should do it. It uses the same data as the UI report. Are you
sure the jobs are running for that particular site?

Is is possible to get historical data directly from the database? I found the
following tables in the SharedServices database:

dbo.ANLDaydbo.ANLHistoricalWebUsagedbo.ANLHistoricalSiteUsagedbo.ANLHitdbo.ANLRe\
sourcedbo.ANLShadowHitdbo.ANLShadowResourcedbo.ANLShadowUserdbo.ANLShadowWebdbo.\
ANLUserdbo.ANLWeb
I see how these tables build the 30 day reports but I don't see that they track
more than 30 days worth of information. Is it possible to get to the historical
information from these tables? Is this information getting purged nightly?

Are you looking at the report under the top level site of the site
collection? As I remember that's where the reports all roll up to.

Yes, I was looking at the top level site.

I just checked in my test environment and I'm seeing reports on the top
site for everything since January when I built the site. I only see
summary reports at child site, not the detailed page hit reports. Those
are only at the top level. I didn't do anything other than configure
Usage analysis  processing in Central Admin.

I do see data from the MOnthly Summary of hits but I don't see anything for the
Monthly Page Hits.

Is there a way for me to query the database directly to get this information?
