Hiding Default (Out of Box templates) WITH MOSS 2007

Asked By: Scot    Date: Aug 22    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1357

I would like to hide the out of box templates to my site admins so that
they are forced to create new sites using availabale custom templates.
Is there any way to do this?

These can be hid via the UI, by selecting the "Page Layouts and Templates"
(think it's called that haven't got a moss  install in front of me) link within
"Site Settings". You can select what templates  are to shown. If you want even
greater control you can hide them by modifiying the "WEBTEMP.XML" file and
removing the ones you don't want. Hope this helps.

This Page layouts and templates  can be a site level setting so that some
sites can have more available templates than others.

However, Site Collection Administrators and Site Owners have access to
this page and can reconfigure it for their sites.

So Site Admin training or modifying webtemp.xml may be in your solution.

The Page layouts and templates  option is only available in publishing
sites.

Less intrusive than removing the entries from the WEBTEMP.xml file would
be changing the Hidden attributes on the configurations that you don't
want displayed to ="true".
