Hide top bar javascript

Asked By: Roland    Date: Jun 17    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 3067

I am trying to create a javascript which hides/unhides the top
navigation, title bar and banner frame.

I have tried getting the elements by their css class name but this
doesn't work.

Is this possible and if so how can I do it?

If its just particular elements  on the title/toolbars that you want to hide, you
should be able to use css. If its the whole lot, you might have to modify the
aspx directly. There's a good branding example on MSDN that explains customising
SPS for their Contoso sample

I need to be able to show and hide  the top  bar, and would prefure to
do this in a content editor webpart. I think the best way would be
to put the whole top bar  in a div tag with an id. If i do this in
Dreamweaver, does this unghost the page (I'm not too sure what
unghosting is and how you do/don't do it?!)?

I think for top  nav bar  you need to hide  class .ms-nav of style sheet.
It depends where you want to hide the top bar. owspers.css for My Site.
sps.css for Portal OWS.CSS for team site(WSS).
You don't want your pages to be unghosted. There are many articles which
explain Ghosting/Unghosting.

I dont think I am being very clear! I want ANY user of the site to
be able to click on a button, which will hide  the top  bar. This
button will then toggle, so when pressed, shows the top bar.

Using css  to hide the class  in a webpart is what I have currently
done, but I can't work  out how to get a javascript  to do the hiding,
as I can't target the bar  in JS by its class name.

How do I solve this problem?
