How to Hide or Remove MySite functionality.

Asked By: Ladonna    Date: Feb 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2019

For a particular portal I'm building there is a desire to not have My
Sites. Is there a 'feature' that can remove My Sites from the user's
view? The only way I know I can do this is to edit the site Master
Page.

If you've got an SSP that is only used for that portal, then you can go
to the personalization permissions on the ssp and remove  the permissions
from the ntauthourity/authenticated users group. These are the two
permissions required to create a mysite. If the user doesn't have those
permissions the link will be security trimmed.
NTauthority/authenticated users is how 99% of the users on the system
get those permissions. If other groups are given those two permissions
in that location they will continue to see the mysite  link. So you can
control who does and who does not see the link.

That sounds like a solution to me.
