Help with the search

Can anybody tell me what I have to do with the "search" to work.

I have put in documents with key words but when I try to search for
them, It doesn't find anything.

The document has to be published and you have to have the rights to see
them. To test the search feature I add the word "apple" to all my test
documents to ensure they are being indexed. Then I search for Apple.
