Help migration from WSS to MOSS

Asked By: Aadesh Bargali         Date: Jul 29, 2009      Category: MOSS      Views: 148

I had a WSS site based on SQL express and finally, after selling my
sould to the devil, I got a server with
SQL server 2005 and MOSS 2007!!
I backed up my site and restore it to the new server and I tried to do
just an in place upgrade but MOSS insisted in reusing the SQL express
instance so I decided to install MOSS first the way I wanted it,
create a site collection and then restore from my backup. I used the
following command:

stsadm -o restore -url http://newserver/SiteDirectory/OldSite
-filename c:\backup.dat

I tried with and without the -overwrite flag (I've done this several
times by now) and all the time I get a
successful restore, but it in http://newserver instead of putting it
in SiteDirectory.

Another thing I noticed is that when I go to Site Actions, it only
shows the options for WSS and not for MOSS.

Can anybody please tell me what I did wrong or how I can fix it?
