Help installing MOSS 2007

I am in the process of installing MOSS 2007 in a test environment. I
thought I had successfully installed the software, but when I try to
create a SSP, I cannot select the index server.

I chose to install to new farm, will have 2 servers, SQL2000 and the
WFE. How do I determine if the index server / services is running?
Where do I tell the server that it is an index server? All help is
appreciated.

You will need to go into Central Administration, operations
and select the server services link. Make sure you select what kind of
server you want to use such as "Web Front End" or "Standalone". When you
select the server type you then see all the services that can be enabled for
that server. Simply start all the relevant service such as "Office Server
Search" etc etc. Then try and re-create the SSP.
