Need help "file not found"

Asked By: Antoinette    Date: Feb 22    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1348

I'm open the file from program files\common files\microsoft shared\webserver
extensions\12\template\global\ default.master by SPD.

Then I save it, after that when I want to open my sharepoint site I've got
the message "file not found" even I want to open the CA as well.

Anyone have an advice, what should I do to get back my sharepoint site. I'm
trying to find it out even I already change some code such as:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="wssuc" TagName="DesignModeConsole"
src="~/_controltemplates/DesignModeConsole.ascx" %> but still don't work.

Hopefully you made a backup before you opened the file  in SPD. You
should never open  files on the file system using SPD. It will change
relative references in the file to specific file based references and
break the file. The amount of code  you would need to change  to fix the
file is quite large, and you would need to do it using something other
than SPD or it would keep breaking the file when you save  it Your only
real choice is to get a fresh copy of the file from another server and
replace the one that you broke using SPD on it.

The bottom line is that you should never edit files in the 12 hive
without making backups first and never do that editing using SPD. SPD
should only be used to edit files opened by opening the site  and
accessing them that way.
