Background: I’ve set up what I think I need as a DWT for my site. I have all header / top nav / left nav set and my editable region is the <td class=” ms-bodyareaframe”> area of the page. I had to alter the overall structure of the pages to accommodate my supervisor’s design, so I can’t just add a new stylesheet and call it good. We will still need the security web controls in place.

What editable regions do I need to set up in a DWT to preserve the functionality of my SPS Portal (i.e. should each web control be in an editable region)?

Will I need to make multiple DWTs to ensure the functionality?

Will the web parts all change still based on what page it is, even if they are in a non-editable region?

These should get me started…I might come up with more later.

I strongly recommend against using DWTs. But, if you insist you should
follow the editable  region standards defined by http://dwtig.com/
