Hard Question?

Asked By: Gaurang    Date: Mar 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 619

Well It's hard for me anyway... Howdy everyone, I am a desktop
support tech working with sharepoint support. I was wondering if
anyone has experienced this problem:

I have three users out of 800 that when they are managing their
sharepoint sites and trying to add new users the address book does
not come up when the button is pressed. There is no error message
displayed or in event viewer. They are currently working around this
issue by copying and pasting the email addresses into the appropriate
field and I have searched and searched and cannot find the answer to
what is causing this. I have performed the following trouble
shooting steps (none of which corrected the problem):

1. Ensured the contacts were visible in outlook,
2. Ensured outlook configuration was correct.
3. Rebuild their profile from scratch.
4. It works on another workstation.
5. Added registry key to local_user\software\microsoft\office\11.0
\outlook\preferences disablests dword 0x00000000 (enabled). From some
document I saw in Technet.

The last thing i was going to do was try and reload a workstation.
Problem with that is these users have alot of special configuration
and not alot of time. If there is a way to fix it without reloading
I'd be eternally greatful for the solution.

This looks like WSS v2, not WSS v3 or MOSS; and WSS v2 not SPS 2003. Is
that correct?

If so, WSS v2 launched the client's Outlook Address Book using
JavaScript. All these other environments rely on a server-side solution
for adding users. There is probably an installation problem  with Outlook
on these clients. While there is no way for me to know, it seems logical
that reinstalling Outlook on these clients should repair the situation.

I have two monitors and when I use the Address Button the Address
Book is displayed off the screens. I right mouse click on the start
bar Microsoft Address Book, select move and use the arrow keys to get
the Address Book back on the screen.
