Guide to creating MOSS webparts which interact with SQL Server Data

Asked By: Bennie    Date: Oct 22    Category: MOSS    Views: 889

Can anyone guide me on how to create custom MOSS webparts which interact with
SQL Server via LINQ.

I need to be able to create the UI too.

The data access code is not a problem but which tool is best for creating UI..Is
VSeWSS advised or WSPBuilder?

How do i store the DB ConnectionString Details in the Webpart?

Have you thought about creating  a data  view web part on your site, using
SharePoint Designer?

Neither VSeWSS nor WSPBuilder helps with UI. You can take user control route
which helps with UI or you build the UI in the webpart  programmatically.

Not taking security into consideration, you can make connection string as a
property of the web part, or you can store  the connection string at the web
level, or site, or web application level; or hard code  the connection string,
though not recommended.
