Group By Calculated Field

Asked By: Sade    Date: Apr 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 3952

I am trying to get around the duplicate company issue in my contacts as
a lookup column. (my previous posts)

so i did a calc column that would combine company and full name as the
drop down to select.
that works great except when i try to group by Client & Company
i get <!RENDER FAILED..<!--
for each of the other fields below the grouping.?

Can you tell me a little more about the formula you used for the calculated
column and the two fields you are putting together. I've done something
like this several times and never had a problem. Are both fields marked as
required to be sure you don't have a null field  in the calculated  column?

There are no empty fields.
i have made then full  name field  mandatory.
as well as the company;

i created a calc  field in contacts  list in site columns so that i can use it in
my sub webs
so i add that calc field [company] & " - " & [fullname] Client & Company
to the doc lib that i want to attach this info
then when i create a view call Client and company  and group  by that i get the
render error
if i just use the calc field as one of the columns and no sort on it it works
fine.
plus it is working with some libs and not with others.
strange.

Let me see if I can replicate that. The only three differences I see
between what you did and what I did successfully are the following:

1) I used a locally built column, not a site column. I know its more
work but you might try that on one of your lists to see if site
column is the issue.
2) I used two columns in the calculation that didn't contain any
spaces.
3) I just concatenated the two columns [LastName]&[Company] for the
calculated field.

I'll try to replicate what you did and let you know what I find.
