We are having terrible issues with variations and decided to skip them alltogether and write our own logic for switching between languages.

However, a lot of content in our site collection has already been created under the variation roots. How do we disable variations alltogether? Is it even possible? If not, what's the best way to move a site (and subsites) to a new site collection that doesn't have variations?
