Cannot get to mysites

Asked By: Donavan    Date: Feb 24    Category: MOSS    Views: 769

I am working on installing a sharepoint 2007 on Windows server 2008.
My problem is I can not get to mysites from other computers in our
domain, but I can get to it from the sharepoint hosting server.
I guess it could be the port(6000) that host mysite. The Port 6000 does
not seem to allow anyone to get to the mysites.
Or it could be something else.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

It could either be that the port is being blocked by a firewall and/or
gateway along the way, or that the host/FQDN portion (e.g. "server" from
http://server:6000/) does not resolve via DNS/WINS/NetBios on other

Also if you're accessing it via a different URL you need to also set up
the correct Alternate Access Mapping. When a Web App's created it
creates an entry in the Default Zone. If you're not using that
address, any other address needs to be in the AAM.

But the mysite can be access from the shaepoint hosting server, so I don't think
it is URL.
Domain users can not get to it from their workstation.

Can you ping the mysites  address from a remote workstation? If so then DNS is
resolving properly. If you can only do it on the server then the server may
have a local entry in the hosts file of the server which will only resolve on
the server.

You might be resolving via NetBIOS name (machine name) so it works on the host.
Your mysites  URL should probably be FQDN like http://mysites.contoso.msft with a
corresponding DNS record.
