Get metadata out of documents

Asked By: Keely    Date: Dec 16    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1417

I'm a newbie in SPS, Web Parts, etc...

I wanna do the following: I have some documents in a folder. Now I wanna
build a web part that shows me some metadata of the documents in a table.

like this

Project Nr | Date | Author
24EE01 10/09/2001 John
24EE35 10/05/2001 Mike

Project nr, date and author are properties (metadata) And it is the metadata
of each document that i wanna show in my Dashboard via a Web part.

Question: How do i get the metadata (properties) out those documents and
publish in a web part?

Some ideas, code or have somebody a usefull tutorial?

You can simply insert a list into webpart. If you have files in the list with metadata in place you can make a view that allows just the data you want to be seen. Look up "create list view web part"

Go to the library that has your folder, under Library Tools select Library and click Create View, select standard view (unless you need something specific) uncheck boxes of columns you don't need. Now add a web part - go to the page you need it in, under Page click Edit, under Editing Tools click Insert and Existing List (add web part works too) select the list and page location click Add. Now in the list you just added in the top right corner click a triangle, Edit web part and select the view you previously created. You can also add list first and edit view later.
