I don't know if this can be done, at least not without some significant coding
and VS (which I don't have access to).
I have a document library in a MOSS site that has one field of metadata that
selects from a list. I allow multiple entries into this field. For a workflow
that I am working on creating with SPD, I need to pull each entry out of this
field and enter them into separate variables. For instance, in the field, users
can select value1, value2, value3. I need a way to set value1 to variable1,
value 2 to variable 2, etc. Is there a way to do this? (The trick is, some
items may only have one or two values here, and some may have 4 or 5. So once I
get this solved, I get to move on to how to determine how many variables I need
to populate.) I can accomplish what I need now, by using "Contains" as a
condition, but that is unfortunately limiting and will likely create a fairly
sizable workflow that will need to be edited constantly. Since there may be
many copies of this workflow in our site, this really is not a good solution,
but more of a
