Future of Sharepoint and MS Products

Do you guys agree with the following 'perception' of where MS is
going with SP....your thoughts?

You are a DOS user and MS has come out with a product
called 'Windows' and they are asking you 'Hey guys check this out?'.
Its your choice today to stay on DOS or use Windows. However
eventually that choice would be limited (or even not there!!!) as
the new products would be tied to Sharepoint platform in some form
or shape to harness their full advantage. Some of this is already
happening with their products like Office, Business Scorecards,
Project, etc.

Is this MS way to move its products more towards server and be more
thin client (SP interface) oriented? Could this be tied to 'software
on demand' strategy (which is getting hot at this time similar to
video-on-demand), since products will be server based and can be
hosted?

Any other spin on this, I might have missed?

How do you perceive the future for SP?

SP is to the fileserver as Windows was to DOS

I am wondering if this is more than fileserver? I think fileserver (network file shares) is only part of the whole enchilada....

Microsoft are already moving their internal file storage etc onto
Sharepoint.

MS should practice what they preach....question is....how painful is this move and what timeframe, cost, methodology, best practice, etc? Is it worth? ROI analysis?

I have seen a demo of SPS 2006. Looks good for me. I liked the way sharepoint is
going to use Info path and more over the Workflow integrated with viso (As what
i understood) looks will ease our life a bit. I am investigating a lot on the
out come of Microsoft tie up with Groove. I am yet to underderstand the full
impact/advantage of getting sharepoing along with groove. Video on Demand,
Conference etc would go great. Just wonder has any one used sharepoint and
Groove products!

I envision the future being an end-user set of plug-n-play components
(called web parts) that run various part of applications within the
browser. I can fully see the browser eventually replacing the desktop
as all applications become presented via web parts, hosting their data
in SQL and using the WSS platform for base functionality.

Remember going from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 or NT 4 to W2K AD?
