How to free disk space?

Asked By: Leland    Date: Jan 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2015

I had deleted 7 GB of data from the SharePoint server, in order to
free the disk space. But, it is NOT reflected in the "Free Space" of
the drive shown in the Windows Explorer window or in the size of the
WSS file in the "SharePoint Data" folder.

SPS works the same as Exchange 2K in that regard. When items are deleted  from
the store, the store does not necessarily shrink. White space  is created in the
store and that space can then be used in the future. This speeds up the process
of store maintenance in the background because the store will not have to grow
when new docs are added. It will instead use the white space.

Are you running out of space or simply trying to be efficient with the space?

I had specifically deleted  7 GB of docs, just becoz, i
was running out of space  in the hard disk, due to
which I was unable to run the MS-Script backup.

Later I found that stopping MSExchangeIS service and
running ESEUTIL, defragmented the store, and released
unused space. Now, i am able to reclaim the unused
