Forcing 'save as' if changes are made.

Asked By: Luke Birch         Date: May 23, 2011      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 1737

Hi all,

I have ran into a problem and am hoping that someone could provide a solution.

We are running a Sharepoint here at work, and i want to force a 'save as' function if people make changes to a document.

For example:

John opens 'Weekly meeting minutes 0.2.doc' and makes changes.

Now, if he presses Ctrl+S - it will save over the old version.

I want to disable this option, so that if changes are made it will force you to enter a new file name.

I know there are official 'versioning' options that can be implemented, but this is already a pre-established sharepoint with thousands of documents so i dont think that solution would work too well (without spending alot of time).

If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks,

Luke.
