Folder permissions

Asked By: Ali Vincent         Date: Feb 17, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 241

Is there a way to view Document Libraries in Folder view (as the default)
and retain security? If so, how?

I want to be able to open a library in the folder view, view the documents
in a file structure, but only have read rights. If you want to upload or
modify, it challenges you for authentication.

I'm guessing, but this sounds like a function of your web authentication
settings.
It sounds like you have the folder  view set up for anonymous viewing, so
this is how you are connected by default. That would then explain why a
password is required for upload.

Change the settings to remove anonymous and, assuming you are using IE,
check integrated security. No prompt will be required as long as the
individual is logged on to the desktop appropriately.
