How to find the SSP Config DB?

Asked By: Efrain    Date: Feb 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 3740

We have 3 farms running a the moment and I'm tasked with sorting out
all the DBs for each of them.

Finding the content DBs is easy enough...there's a nice option in
Central Admin for that.

The config DB was a bit trickier, finally found that that is in the registry:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0\Secure\ConfigD

However, we still have a few stray DBs that appear to be the config
and search DB for each of the SSPs. I can't figure out how to find the
name of those DBs. STSADM doesn't seem to have a command for it, and I
haven't found it in the registry (though maybe I'm looking in the
wrong spot).

Is there a way to find this info?

Yeah, go to Central Admin >
Application Management > Create or configure this farm's shared
services.

Click the drop down for the SSP and select "Edit Properties". The
resulting page will display the DB server  and the SSP and SSP Search
DB names.

The other method is to look at the Backup/Restore job status (Central
Admin > Operations) all of the farm databases are listed.

I'll modify that slightly and suggest instead of going to 'JOB STATUS'
go to PERFORM A BACKUP. It's the same list, but MOSS actually gives a
description of each item so it's clear which DB is which.
