How we can find the number of concurrent users in a MOSS portal ?

I am using windows authentication.

I tried with the appconfig applicationstart values. It is working fine for
asp.net applications. But the same not for sharepoint .

you can use the Perfmon tool to capture number  of users
are logged  in the site by adding respective Counters in the Perfmon.

sharepoint has Site Usage reports which shows the user count and each user

I don't think you can capture this information easily.

May be you have to develop a HTTP handler, where you store the IP address or any
unique key in Request to a Cached data structure, that expires the item every
(for example) 20 minutes if not updated. The number  of items, in the structure
will give you close approximation to number of users  logged in.

If you have a Farm setup, keep this data in database.

This one I found on top when searching from google
But I am personally not a big fan of delegate control would not go for it.
