Finalizing migration

Asked By: Judson    Date: Feb 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 538

We have been in 'gradual migration' mode for a long time and
have finally completed all of our migrations. we still have a number
of SPS2003 portals yet to be deleted.

A couple of questions about 'finalizing' our migration:

1. Can SPS 2003 portals still exist during the finalize process?
2. Will the finalize process delete the v2 configuration database and
therefore render the entire farm dead?
3. Our SPS 2003 farm had Shared Services and one of the remaining
portals is the "parent" portal. Should the parent be deleted from our
farm before or after the finalize operation?

In reading about finalizing, it seems like all it does is break the
link between the MOSS farm and the SPS 2003 farm, but most of the
articles are very vague about deleting portals prior to finalize.
