File Uploads - need to keep date

Asked By: Bennie    Date: Feb 02    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 9115

I'm moving documents from network folders to SharePoint document
libraries, and can't find a way to keep the original file date and
author. This is critical because we use the date to determine when the
document is due for revision/review.

I'm on WSS 3.0 and have only been working with SharePoint for a few

In WSS2/SPS2003 this was only possible using the FrontPage RPC methods
(see http://www.codeplex.com/SPMigration for an example). I have heard
it can be done using the Object Model in WSS3/MOSS but haven't tried it
yet myself.

I'll check these out, but I'm not a developer so they're probably
beyond what I can do. It just seems like such a basic need; I would
think a lot of organizations would have this issue - needing to know
the true file  modified date  and not just the sharepoint  upload date.

The link I included is for an import/export utility that should do
exactly what you need - it also includes source if you have a developer
that needs to use it as the basis of a customized utility.
