file permissions

Asked By: Keaton    Date: Feb 02    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1058

I have a file which I alone should be able to edit and all others
should be able to read but not edit.If I place this file in the
general document repository, I cannot manage the security. Any ideas
on how to overcome this?

Security is managed at the document  library level, not the document
level. Each unique set of permissions  requires a separate document

Unless I'm mistaken, you'll need to either put it into a separate document  library which has unique permissions  or you'll need to try one of the many document/item level security  3rd party add-on tools. We tried the one from SPSTools.net and it seemed very quirky and inconsistent. There are others, just google "item level permissions sharepoint" and you should find a couple. For the time being, we have decided against using any item level permissions add-ons.
