"File not found" for default.aspx on MOSS homepage

A colleague and I were both doing some work on our Sharepoint 2007
environment using Designer, and I made the (hopefully not fatal)
mistake of editing core.css on the server's file structure (as opposed
to going through Designer). I don't know if that was what caused this
problem, but trying to bring up the site now results in "file not
found" errors. If I try to open the site using Designer, I get the
message, "/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll is not contained within a
windows sharepoint services site."

Am I pretty much outta luck? Or is there some way I can bring this
back? Thanks so much!
