File doesnot open in application but open in browser(Very urgent please help)

User uploaded some .xmcd files. They were opening fine till few days
back. But since yesterday, file opens in browser in XML format and not
in the application.

Also if I change the view to explorer then the file opens in
application. The problem is with the view 'All Documents'.

This is very urgent as site are soon to be audited.

There is a list setting for whether the file  opens in application  or browser.
Also, if character limit is exceeded, I believe it opens  in the browser  as well.
