Feature definition with id .... failed validation

Asked By: Roxana    Date: Jan 01    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 18005

I was following instructions in book in chapter 2
re installing feature.xml and elements.xml files. I successfully
installed them but had inaccurate code.

I ran the stsadm deactivatefeature and then the stsadm
uninstallfeature - both worked successfully.

I did an iisreset, corrected the code, created a new guid for the
feature.xml file and ran the stsadm code to installfeature.

I consistently get the error that the Feature definition with Id ...
failed validation.

I have tried this for hours with new guids, etc. and cannot figure
out why this is happening.

Does anyone have any ideas?

This is resolved. I had an extra space in the xml  code.

One other thing Sharon. Be sure to setup CAML Intellisense as described
on page 132 and following. It can really help in locating little
problems like this.

WSS v3 Features are required to match the XML schema defined in the
..\12\TEMPLATE\XML\wss.xsd file. Have you configured VS.NET to
auto-validate this schema for you? Also be aware that XML elements  and
attributes are case sensitive.
