We have a dual authenticated environment - AD and FBA. Everything has
been working fine, with similar performance of the site regardless of
the authentication mechanism. This week we were notified by an FBA
user that search was not working. After investigating, we have
determined that AD searches work the same, but FBA searches are either
very slow (1 min +) or timeout depending on site traffic. Both the AD
and FBA sites are running off the same WFE server and the query role
and index file location are on that same WFE server. The problem
exists in both my DEV and PROD environments. The only changes I know
of that may be related are two Windows hotfixes/updates that went in 2
- 3 weeks prior to the discovery of this problem (KB926139 and KB948496).

Any suggestions as to what might fix this problem?
